Street Fighter Returns to the Big Screen: A First Look at the 2026 Reboot Revealed Live at The Game Awards

Street Fighter movie 2026 first look at 17 iconic characters

There are certain things that live forever in the hearts of ’90s kids: the sound of a dial-up modem connecting, the glow of a Lisa Frank notebook, those plastic choker necklaces we thought were the height of fashion—and the unmistakable cry of “Shoryuken!” cutting through an arcade full of blinking lights.

For me, Street Fighter wasn’t just a game. It was an era. It was a pioneer in the fighting game genre of video games like Mortal Kombat. I remember playing with my brother and his friends on the Super Nintendo (SNES) console, but my favorite was when I got to play it at the arcade. It was the thrill of executing a perfect Hadouken at just the right moment. It was the pride of finally mastering Chun-Li’s lightning kicks without mashing all the buttons like a maniac.

And yes, I absolutely watched the 1994 Street Fighter movie—Jean-Claude Van Damme throwing flying kicks as Colonel Guile, Raul Julia—our beloved Gomez Addams—delivering a glorious performance as M. Bison (“For you, it was Tuesday”), Kylie Minogue and Ming-Na Wen bringing Cammy and Chun-Li to life. The movie was campy. It was chaotic. It was gloriously imperfect. And it was magic.

Flash forward to December 11 at The Game Awards, held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, where the packed audience not only got the very first sneak peek at the movie, but also got something extra. Imagine sitting in the theater, expecting the usual awards lineup, and suddenly the screen flashes Street Fighter blue. Then—bam!—the cast of the upcoming 2026 Street Fighter movie starts walking out like real-life character select portraits materializing on stage.

A Star-Packed Surprise Appearance

In a moment that sent the theater into a frenzy, several of the film’s stars took the stage to personally debut the footage. Among them were:

  • Noah Centineo (“Ken”)
  • Andrew Koji (“Ryu”)
  • Callina Liang (“Chun-Li”)
  • Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoai (“Akuma”)
  • David Dastmalchian (“M. Bison”)
  • Cody Rhodes (“Guile”)
  • Andrew Schulz (“Dan”)
  • Vidyut Jammwal (“Dhalsim”)
  • Orville Peck (“Vega”)
  • Olivier Richters (“Zangief”)
  • Rayna Vallandingham (“Juli”)
  • Mel Jarnson (“Cammy”)

  • And yes—Jason Momoa, who not only plays Blanka but also serves as a producer.

The first-look sizzle reel revealed glimpses of all 17 iconic Street Fighter characters, each rendered with grit, style, and enough nostalgia to make fans lose their collective minds.

A Story Set in 1993—Right Back Where Street Fighter Became Legend

The official synopsis confirms that the film takes us back to 1993, set amidst the global boom of competitive fighting games and martial-arts cinema. Our estranged heroes Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are drawn back into the arena when Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the newest World Warrior Tournament.

But—as the trailer teases—this isn’t just a tournament arc. It’s something darker, more personal, and much more dangerous.

Behind the spectacle lies “a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”

If that doesn’t feel like classic ’90s martial-arts cinema energy, I don’t know what does.

Meet the Fighters: A Cast That’s Punching Above Its Weight

This film isn't just checking boxes—it’s throwing real talent into the ring.

  • Andrew Koji brings the physicality and emotional grounding that made him a standout in Warrior.

  • Noah Centineo steps into Ken’s fiery charm and competitive spirit.

  • Callina Liang looks fierce, powerful, and mysterious as Chun-Li, who appears to drive the plot more deeply than previous adaptations.

  • Jason Momoa as Blanka is one of those “how did I not see this coming?” casting choices—wild, bold, and perfect.

  • Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson joins as Balrog, adding heavyweight swagger.

  • David Dastmalchian, who always elevates every character he touches, brings sinister depth to M. Bison.

And let’s not gloss over the visual of Orville Peck as Vega. Mask + matador energy? Inspired.

A Director with a Vision: Kitao Sakurai

Helmed by Kitao Sakurai, the mind behind Bad Trip and several visually daring projects, this adaptation promises to lean heavily into stylized action while honoring the game’s DNA.

As the production teased, this film will bring “Hadoukens, roundhouses, and all your favorite characters” from the arcade straight to the big screen. The Game Awards footage showcased explosive energy attacks, beautifully choreographed clashes, and a stylized world that feels both cinematic and true to the Capcom aesthetic.

A True Collaboration of Legends

This reboot comes from Paramount Pictures and Legendary Pictures, in partnership with Capcom, the original creators. This movie isn’t just fan service—it's a global collaboration. The producing and executive teams include industry legends such as:

  • JJ Hook, Jay Ashenfelter, Kenzo Tsujimoto, Haruhiro Tsujimoto

  • Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Jason Momoa, Takayuki Nakayama, Stefan Makhoul

When a studio teams up with the original creators—and puts a lifelong fan like Momoa in the producer’s chair—it signals one thing: they’re taking this seriously. And, there will likely be lots of merch.

Mark Your Calendars, Fighters

Street Fighter hits theaters exclusively on October 16, 2026.

That gives us just enough time to replay our favorite titles, argue over best mains (I’m a Chun-Li girl forever, sorry not sorry), and mentally prepare for the most nostalgic Tiger Uppercut of the decade.

If the 1994 film was a childhood gateway into a beloved universe, this 2026 reboot looks ready to be the full-circle, high-octane spectacle fans have been waiting decades for. And honestly? I’m already practicing my Hadouken stance for opening night.

Which Street Fighter character are you most excited to see on the big screen? Let me know in the comments!

Finding Focus Before the Holidays: My Stay at the Hampton Inn Atlanta/Fayetteville

Welcome to the Peach State sign in lobby of Hampton Inn Atlanta Fayetteville

The days leading up to Thanksgiving are usually a blur of family, last-minute grocery runs, and “oh no, did we remember the cranberry sauce?” vibes. But this year, before I could lean into full holiday mode, I had another responsibility: leading a three-day remote system training for work.

As much as I love being home for the holidays, my house is not exactly the quietest place when everyone is around. I needed to be on—professional, focused, and free from the soundtrack of everyday life (doorbells, barking dogs, random background noise, you name it). So instead of presenting from a busy home, I decided to do something different: I checked into the Hampton Inn Atlanta/Fayetteville for three days before Thanksgiving.

Spoiler: it was exactly what I needed.

Why I Chose the Hampton Inn Atlanta/Fayetteville

Location. Location. Location

The Hampton Inn Atlanta/Fayetteville is conveniently located south of Atlanta in Fayetteville, Georgia. It’s:

  • About 17 miles from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport
  • Under five miles from Pinewood Studios (hello, movie magic neighbors!)
  • Close to lots of nearby restaurants and shops
  • Equipped with complimentary self-parking, which made coming and going super easy—no ticket machines, no daily parking charge, no drama.
  • Out of the chaos, but still very connected

For anyone flying in, doing business near the airport, or working on productions at Pinewood, this hotel is in a sweet spot: close enough to everything, but not in the middle of the chaos.

For me, it was perfect because it is less than 15 minutes away from my parent’s house.

Check-In: Smooth, Friendly, and Stress-Free

I did online check-in ahead of time, so the arrival experience was quick and easy (which is exactly what I want after juggling travel, work, and holiday logistics). I was greeted by a friendly woman at the front desk who quickly handed me:

  • My room key
  • A welcome water
  • Snacks (always a win in my book)

It was exactly the kind of quick, efficient check-in you want after a long day of travel, errands, or—if you’re like me—mentally prepping for training sessions.

This Hampton Inn has three floors, and my room was on the second floor—convenient enough to use the stairs but quiet enough to feel removed from lobby traffic.

My Room: Clean, Comfortable, and Work-Friendly

I stayed in a standard room with two queen beds, and for a productive (and cozy) work retreat, it checked all the important boxes:

  • The room was clean and comfortable
  • I had plenty of space to spread out my laptop, notes, training materials, and water (and snacks, obviously)
  • There was a refrigerator and microwave in the room

That fridge-and-microwave combo is elite when you’re staying multiple days and trying to stay productive. I could keep drinks cold, heat up leftovers, and avoid having to order food (read Uber Eats) every time I was hungry.

Most importantly, the room was quiet. For someone presenting live remote training sessions, that’s huge. I didn’t have to worry about random loud noises interrupting me mid-sentence—and that alone made the stay worth it.

Fueling Up: Complimentary Breakfast

Like most Hampton Inns, this location offers a complimentary breakfast every morning—and yes, I fully took advantage.

Breakfast options included:

  • Hot items like scrambled eggs, roasted potatoes, bacon, and oatmeal
  • A make-your-own waffle station
  • Bagels, bread (toast), pastries, and cereal
  • Yogurt and other lighter options

For business travelers, remote workers, or families, having breakfast included is such a win. I didn’t have to think about where to eat first thing in the morning—I could grab a plate, eat, and then head back upstairs to get camera-ready for my training sessions. And knowing that coffee and tea were available in the lobby whenever I needed them was a bonus—especially when I needed that afternoon boost.

A Pleasant Surprise: Manager’s Reception

Now let’s talk about the part I wasn’t expecting: this Hampton Inn offers a Manager’s Reception on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

This isn’t something every Hampton Inn does, so it felt like a little extra treat.

On Tuesday night, the reception featured:

  • Lasagna with garlic bread
  • Salad
  • A cheese plate
  • Mixed nuts and other snack options
They also had several beverage choices, including:
  • Sodas
  • Beer and wine

I enjoyed a few glasses of red during my visit—a red blend and a Cabernet Sauvignon—which was the perfect way to unwind and transition from mode to being relaxed having made it through the day.

What really stood out, though, was the service. At one point, I left my plate at the table to grab something else, and when I came back, the lady hosting the reception had covered my plate so nothing would get in it. It was such a simple gesture, but it spoke volumes about the care and attention the staff put into the guest experience.

Staff & Service: Small Gestures, Big Impact

From the front desk to the dining area, the staff at this Hampton Inn were warm, attentive, and thoughtful.

  • Check-in was welcoming and efficient
  • The breakfast and reception team kept everything stocked, clean, and inviting
  • Little touches—like covering my plate when I stepped away—made me feel looked after, not just checked in

When you’re juggling work, travel, and holiday plans, that kind of service really matters. It felt less like a generic chain hotel and more like a place where people actually care that you’re comfortable during your stay.

Amenities I Didn’t Use (But You Might Love)

Although my main focus was work, this Hampton Inn also has several amenities that make it a solid choice for both business and leisure stays:

  • Outdoor pool
  • Fitness center
  • Laundry room

I didn’t get a chance to use these during my three-day stay (training mode was real!), but it’s great to know they’re available. If you’re staying longer, traveling with family, or juggling workouts while on the road, these are big pluses.

Final Thoughts: Would I Stay at Hampton Inn Atlanta/Fayetteville Again?

Absolutely.

My three-day stay at the Hampton Inn Atlanta/Fayetteville was:

  • Convenient
  • Quiet enough for professional remote training
  • Comfortable for resting and recharging
  • Full of thoughtful touches, from breakfast and coffee to the Manager’s Reception and kind staff

If you’re:

  • Working remotely and need a quiet base near Atlanta,
  • Flying in or out of Hartsfield-Jackson and want to stay south of the city, or
  • Working or visiting near Pinewood Studios
  • Visiting family for the holidays but still need a little “focus retreat” like I did
  • Or just looking for a clean, comfortable hotel in Fayetteville, GA with good value…

…I’d definitely recommend considering this Hampton Inn.

I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
