Some franchises give you a great story; a rare few give you a story and a look so iconic that you can still picture it years later. The Hunger Games is firmly in the second category. This week, Paris is making it official.
Timed to coincide with Paris Fashion Week, Lionsgate rolled out the red carpet at the famed Musée Rodin to celebrate the franchise's fashion legacy and the upcoming arrival of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The occasion was the opening of a new exhibition called Elegance Is Authority: The Story, Style and Power of Panem, and yes, it is every bit as dramatic as it sounds.
Fashion has always been part of Panem. This event feels so fitting because The Hunger Games has never treated fashion as decoration. Style is part of how the story talks about power. The Capitol's spectacle, the pageantry around the Games, and the polished presentation of something deeply brutal are all communicated through what people wear and how they dressed up for the cameras.
The glamour is the mask, and the mask is the message.
So, it makes sense that the exhibition is called Elegance Is Authority. In Panem, looking the part has always been a form of control, and I love that this event leans into that instead of just treating the costumes as eye candy.
The Red Carpet Moment
Stars Joseph Zada and Mckenna Grace we in attendance at the gala and they brought the looks.
Zada, who plays young Haymitch Abernathy, wore a suit from ERL and finished the look with a gorgeous Tiffany brooch. The brooch was a small detail, but it says, "I'm here to be looked at." It's giving Capitol chic, just with better taste and fewer feathers.
Grace, who plays Maysilee Donner, arrived in Monique Lhuillier, and the look was reminiscent of Katniss' iconic moment in Catching Fire. If you're a fan of the movies, you already know exactly the energy that evokes. It's a wink to the franchise fashion history and it's the kind of nod fans love to spot and debate about on social media.
The stars also made time for the fans who showed up early. Some were lined up as early as 1PM. That's dedication. Reaping Day may be fictional, but those fans were there on this day ready to witness the moment IRL.
Step Into the Exhibition
Set in the Musée Rodin gardens, the exhibition brings together archival looks from across the Hunger Games films alongside costumes from Sunrise on the Reaping. We're getting a first look at the Capitol glamour, ceremony, and spectacle that define the 50th Hunger Games, a milestone year with a very different energy than the ones we've seen before.
The best part is that this activation, open to the public October 7 and 8, invites fans to step into the world of Panem through the costumes, style, and visual legacy of the franchise.
