WATCH | Elton John's Surprise Performance at The Lion King Broadway 20th Anniversary Show
November 06, 2017Disney's The Lion King celebrated 20 years on Broadway on Sunday evening highlighted with a surprise performance by Elton John. John performed his hit song "Circle of Life" with the musical's company after the show's curtain call.
John co-wrote the music for the animated film and the stage adaptation of this Disney hit. Fellow members of The Lion King's creative team were also present for the anniversary performance, including lyricist Tim Rice and Julie Taymor, who directed the stage version of the show.

With 24 worldwide productions since premiering on Broadway in November 1997, The Lion King musical has been seen by over 90 million people, according to Disney on Broadway, and the musical’s worldwide gross exceeds that of any film, Broadway show, or other entertainment title in box office history.
The story will be told anew garnering new fans in 2019 with Jon Favreau's live action take on the original 1994 film, which will be lead by stars Beyoncé and Donald Glover.
