Natural Chica & Mimi J host Naturally Pretty: Art of Curl | Event Recap

Dr. Maeling Murphy “Natural Chica” and Mia “Mimi” Johnson hosted their annual Naturally Pretty event, The Art of Curl, last week. The event, held this past Thursday, marks the 6th year that these beautiful ladies have held this event. This dynamic duo created Naturally Pretty in 2011 to “bring community together, while fusing their interests in makeup, natural hair, fashion, and music. If you don’t know, you should definitely learn more about Mae, natural hair blogger and creator of Natural Chica.com, by checking her out on YouTube and Mimi, celebrity makeup artist and beauty expert of MimiJonline.com by checking out her Instagram.

I had so much fun at this event. I met so many wonderful women who are natural and shared their hair management and styling tips with me. My hair wasn’t in any shape to share it with anyone, so I rocked a scarf at the event and to my surprise I received so many compliments. I love events where women (and men) can get together and appreciate each other’s beauty (inside and out) in the spirit of community and helping a good cause. A silent auction was conducted during the event to help raise money for Naturally Pretty’s designated charity. A percentage of the funds raised at the Naturally Pretty event are donated to the Atlanta Day Shelter for Women and Children in downtown Atlanta. How awesome is that?

This event had so much going on, it was a blast. There were vendors doing giveaways and selling their products. A makeup artist from Mimi J’s own makeup store The Glamatory was also on the scene to give makeup tips and mini makeovers. All of this was enjoyed with the sounds of DJ PrincessCut on the 1’s and 2’s as the backdrop. I even met one of the women who created The Sassy Cap, an elongated satin sleep cap, and received one to tryout.

Q-Redew: This beautiful lady and fellow foodie, Tia, was at the event representing Q-Redew which gave away one of their handheld hair steamers. Sadly, I didn't win the giveaway but I had fun learning more about Q-Redew and received a cute mini compact mirror.

Green Gold Hair & Body: I was introduced to Green Gold Hair & Body at the event. They had a table where they were selling hair and body oils and mists. I tried the Coco Mango Oil and Lavender Lime Oil. They smelled so good! The lavender lime oil will definitely help me relax before bed.

EDEN Body Works: My hair loves anything with Jojoba in it and they were a Jojoba Manoi deep conditioner among other products. Have you tried it?EDEN Body Works at Naturally Pretty The Art of Curl

Art was definitely at the core of this event. There was a live art station where CP the Artist did a live painting. In addition, Elasta QP, title sponsor for this event, had an Art of Curl live art mural wall that each attendee participated in painting.

It was wonderful meeting so many amazing people. I will definitely attend another Naturally Pretty event in the future, so look out for that.

  2. I need to go to events like this one. It would be really good to learn more about what products are good, what I should be using, and all of that wonderful stuff. Natural hair is where it's at.
