Florence Henderson, Mom of ‘The Brady Bunch,’ dies at 82

2016 has claimed another celebrity near and dear to the hearts of Americans. TV icon Florence Henderson, best known as the matriarch of The Brady Bunch Carol Brady, passed away Thursday at age 82.

Henderson played TV’s favorite mom on The Brady Bunch from 1969 to 1974. The show became a big success in syndication and continued to air decades later. The show is a part of the fabric that is American pop culture: the opening theme showing the blended family and middle-child syndrome represented by three words "Marcia, Marcia, Marcia.”

Although she was Carol Brady to many of us, Florence Henderson's career encompassed more than just that TV role. She had a successful Broadway career prior to TV stardom and returned to the stage to play the lead role of Annie Oakley in Annie Get Your Gun in 1981. She also made guest appearances on many TV shows over the last four decades, even appearing in 50 Shades of Black in early 2016.  

Henderson’s death came as many American’s were giving thanks for what they are grateful for and their loved ones. Many fans of Florence Henderson paused their celebrations to remember and mourn the loss of this American treasure. Many celebrities shared their shock at finding out that Florence Henderson had died and their gratefulness for having met her.

Henderson’s TV daughter and friend Maurine McCormick shared her feelings of loss on Twitter. In one post she shared the following sentiments, “You are in my heart forever Florence.”

Henderson’s family released the following statement:
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear mother Florence Henderson from Heart Failure. On this day of thanks, our beloved mother was surrounded by her devoted children and dearest friends. We thank all of her fans for their many years of love and ask that we be allowed to grieve in private.
We will all miss Florence Henderson and her dazzling smile.
