Miss Peregrine and compound bow

From the time I saw my first Tim Burton movie, I was mesmerized. There is just something about his style and visual aesthetic. When you see a Burton film, you know immediately. He has an unique signature, a watermark present in all of the films he directs.

When I saw the first trailer for Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, I thought this movie is dark, quirky, and fantastic. This September, Tim Burton and 20th Century Fox will be bringing an adaptation of Random Riggs’ best-selling young adult fantasy novel, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, to the big screen.

Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children gather as a team
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children centers on Jacob (Asa Butterfield) who sets off on a mission to find the truth about the strange stories of the abandoned orphanage for children with “peculiar” traits that his grandpa had been telling him about. Eva Green, who plays the titular role in the film, is no stranger to dark and twisty characters. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children marks the second time that the Penny Dreadful actress and director Tim Burton have collaborated. The first was in Burton’s Dark Shadows where Green played the wicked Angelique Bouchard. The rest of the dynamic cast includes several unknown child actors and a few well known favorites, like Samuel L. Jackson and Dame Judi Dench.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children fits seamlessly into Tim Burton’s portfolio. The film, which is reminiscent of the story of special children going to the Xavier School For Gifted Youngers (X-men) but darker and with Tim Burton’s twist. Interestingly, Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Secret Service) who wrote the screenplay for this film also co-wrote the screenplay for X-men: First Class.
