The cast of the hit romantic comedy Pretty Woman recently reunited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the film's release. Georgia-born actress Julia Roberts reconnected with castmates Richard Gere, Laura San Giacomo, Hector Elizondo and director Garry Marshall to look back and remember how the film came to be. In the film, Roberts' character Vivian Ward asks her friend and fellow prostitute Kit De Luca (Laura San Giacomo), "Who does it work out for?" Well, while it may not have worked out for Skinny Marie or Rachel, it apparently worked out well for Julia Roberts and her character Vivian.

During the segment, which aired on Tuesday on the Today show, Roberts revealed that the original plot didn't have a happy ending, but instead ended with Vivian turning to drugs. Gere also shared that he was very uncertain about accepting the role of Edward Lewis because he felt, "There was just nothing. [...] You could put a suit on a goat and put it out there, and it would work." Fortunately for us, Gere agreed to meet with Roberts and ultimately agreed to take the part when she used a post-it note to requested that he "please say yes." Gere thought the gesture "so sweet" and he and Roberts had chemistry, so he said yes to the project.

I can't imagine any actors playing the lead but Gere and Roberts. I'm glad that Gere agreed to take the part and that the script was changed. Julia Roberts became America's sweetheart and a Hollywood star after Pretty Woman
