MOVIE REVIEW: The Maze Runner

September 25, 2014

Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation

We are in a time when young-adult science fiction is reigning supreme at the box office. 20th Century Fox's The Maze Runner (directed by Wes Ball) is no exception. I have not read any of the books from The Maze Runner series by James Dashner but watching this movie made me want to.

The Maze Runner is about the journey of boy and his friends surviving in a post-apocalyptic world. The opening scene of The Maze Runner is disorienting for both the moviegoer and the protagonist, Thomas, played by Dylan O'Brien. We are then introduced to "The Glade" and its members, think Lord of the Flies. The group work together, for the most part, to escape the maze and see what lies beyond the 'The Glade". Once they do, they are shocked by what they find.

We see some of the most talented young actors playing the diverse members of The Glade community: Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster - Game of Thrones), Gally (Will Poulter - Chronicles of Narnia and We're the Millers), and Jeff (Jacob Latimore - Black Nativity). The characters were well cast for this movie adaptation. The Maze Runner is full of adventure and humor. I enjoyed unlocking the mystery of the maze and hope you do too.  Can't wait to see the next one in the series.

Passes to see The Maze Runner were provided by #RegalCrownClub and #GOFOBO but all opinions are 100% mine
